A gray BMW truck heading east on Myrtle Avenue struck Lucino Galindo, 51, at the corner of Emerson Place around 1 a.m. and did not turn back, police said.
"I still can't believe something like this happened," said Galindo's daughter, Jennie Galindo, 27, who grieved with her daughter and other family members in their Fort Greene apartment Sunday afternoon.
"He's always been there for me," she said. "The whole family will miss him a great deal."
Jennie Galindo said her father's friends told her he was trying to get a cab home after a meeting with them.
The elder Galindo, a machine operator at a Sweet'N Low factory in Brooklyn, was pronounced dead at 1:45 a.m. at Brooklyn Hospital Center.
Galindo loved watching soccer, particularly Cruz Azul, a popular Mexican club, and his brothers and sisters described him as gentle and down to earth.
Police recovered few details about the BMW and were still looking for its driver yesterday.
In another collision, a 20-year-old Staten Island man was critically injured after he was hit by a drunken driver in the Great Kills section, police said.
The victim was standing on a street median at Hylan Boulevard and Thornycroft Avenue at 5:45 a.m. when he was clipped by a late-model luxury sedan traveling west on Hylan Boulevard, police said.
Police said the driver, Lauren Norton, 24, of Staten Island, was arrested at the scene after a breath analysis revealed a .156 blood alcohol level - nearly twice the .08 legal limit. She was charged with driving while intoxicated.
